P.E. for Homeschoolers

FAQs

We do our best to anticipate your questions and provide the most thorough answers, but if there’s something we don’t cover here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

What ages can participate?

Our classes are designed for children ages 5 and up.

Does my child need gymnastics or sports experience?

No. Gymnastics and sports are tools used to develop the nine Foundations of Physical Education, not the end goal.

What should my child wear?

Comfortable clothing without snaps or zippers. Classes are barefoot. Long hair tied back. Water bottle optional.

Can parents watch?

Yes. Spirals has an open-door policy. Parents are always welcome to observe, but staying is not required.

What happens if my child misses a class?

Call the office to schedule a make-up class in another PE class or, when appropriate, another Spirals program.

Can siblings attend together?

Yes, often they can. If siblings are close in age and developmental ability, we will do our best to place them in the same class for your family's convenience. However, when children are more than about three years apart in age, we generally recommend placing each child in the appropriate age group. This is because our monthly lesson plans and teaching methods are specifically designed to match each stage of development. For example, the skills and activities for children ages 5-7 are intentionally different from those for students ages 8 and older. Our goal is to provide the best learning experience for every child while accommodating families whenever possible

How are age groups determined?

Age groups are based on a combination of student age, developmental readiness, and class enrollment. Our goal is to create classes where children learn alongside peers with similar abilities while maintaining an engaging class size. As the program grows, additional age-specific classes may be added to provide even more targeted instruction. Until then, some age groups may be combined, with lessons adapted to meet the needs of all students in the class.

What makes Spirals homeschool P.E. different?

Our curriculum is built around the nine Foundations of Physical Education, developing the movement skills needed for success in sports, recreation, and lifelong physical activity.
