P.E. for Homeschoolers
Homeschool families do an incredible job developing their children's academic skills. Physical education complements that learning by helping children develop coordination, confidence, social skills, and a lifelong love of movement.
Spirals offers homeschooled children a true Physical Education curriculum, not just one activity. This can be difficult to deliver at home
One Complete School Year. Nine Monthly Units.
A well-rounded physical education program develops far more than strength and fitness. Our curriculum is organized into nine instructional units; one for each month of the homeschool school year.
Each month, your child focuses on one Foundation while continuing to build skills learned in previous months. By the end of the school year, they will have completed all nine Foundations, creating a complete physical education curriculum and developing movement skills, coordination, confidence, and teamwork important for lifelong physical activity.
The 9 Foundations
- Locomotor Skills - Running, jumping, hopping, skipping, and other movement patterns.
- Balance & Body Control - Stability, posture, coordination, and body awareness.
- Eye-Hand Coordination - Throwing, catching, striking, and object control.
- Eye-Foot Coordination - Kicking, dribbling, trapping, and lower-body coordination.
- Strength & Power - Building age-appropriate strength through functional movement.
- Agility & Movement Control - Changing direction, reacting quickly, and moving efficiently.
- Gymnastics Fundamentals - Developing flexibility, balance, body awareness, and foundational movement skills.
- Sports Skills & Game Play - Learning the fundamentals of sports and cooperative games. Examples include soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball and cooperative games.
- Teamwork & Personal Growth - Building confidence, communication, sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect.
Children revisit these foundations throughout the year, building confidence and ability through progressive instruction.
We don't teach children one sport—we teach the foundations that help them succeed in every sport and physical activity.
